Discussion Question 2

2.What other events were in the news when your story broke? In other words, what local and/or national news was the story in competition with? And how do you think it impacted the coverage of the event?

  1. Other stories still in the news at the time the Tiger Woods story broke were the H1N1, Nations met at Copenhagen to discuss global warming and how to solve the issues, locally the news discussed snow fall and the economy of Kansas. I don't think there was a lot of competition for the Woods story to have. He was covered and covered a lot. I remember every news station I saw there was something about Woods cheating on his wife. Since there was not a lot of major news happening at this time a lot of focus was put on the Woods incident.

  2. Health care and H1N1 were the majority of the news. I also thought it was sort of ironic during the Olympics when there was a Woods scandal update that followed one of the events. Putting it more out there in the public eye, while millions of people tune into the Olympics

  3. With Bri and Jeff reporting on the H1N1, the weather and Olympics, the only other major event that happened during the span of the Tiger Woods Scandal is of the earthquake on January 12 in Haiti. It affected the coverage of Tiger Woods because some attention was shifted from worrying about Tiger's private to helping out the citizens of a different nation.
